How the tool works

The value of the year. The tool shows the point value of the current payment year. Until the bars publish the value of a new year, it says so and shows a projection computed from the index, flagged as such.

Your estimate. Enter the intellectual points of your final reports and, if any, your travel points. For each payment year the tool computes: (points + file costs) × point value + travel points × €50, minus the procedural indemnities and contributions received. The file costs (code 18 of the nomenclature, + 20 % of the intellectual points) are added only when you ask, so they are never counted twice.

Your closed file. Enter the closing date: the tool gives the points list the file goes into and the payment month that previous years point to, without promising it.

The point value by payment year

Until 2023, the minister set the value by dividing the budget envelope by the total number of points. Since the royal decree of 21 February 2024, a point is worth €90.36, adapted every 1 February to the smoothed health index of September of the previous year (base: September 2022, 120.53), and it cannot fall below €90.36.

The 2024 value follows from the formula and the minister's statements; no 2024 payment notice was read. The 2027 projection rests on our own computation of the smoothed health index of September 2026: it is not an official value.

A travel point is worth €50. The lawyer receives 0.0125 travel point per kilometre from the office (from home at weekends, on public holidays and at night), with a minimum of 20 km per file.

The payment calendar

• Two points lists a year. The bar authorities send the total points to the minister on 1 February and, if the initial credits allow, on 1 July (royal decree of 20 December 1999, art. 2, 4°).
• Closing dates. Since 28 May 2026, the OVB applies uniform dates: a file closed by 15 July goes into the next 1 February list; a file closed by 31 December, into the next 1 July list.
• Payment. A ministerial decree authorises the payment; the OVB pays lawyers on the day it receives the funds. In recent years: 10 June and 20 December 2024; 6 June (€68.35 per point) and 1 August 2025 (balance of €29.02); 5 December 2025; 3 June 2026.
• Not announced. On 7 October 2026, the payment of the 1 July 2026 list is not announced; previous years point to December.
• Limits. No points more than 5 years after the last useful service. Since 1 January 2025, services more than one month before the request was sent are not paid.

What the tool does not do

• It does not compute the points of a file under the nomenclature: it starts from the points awarded.
• It does not know the payment dates of AVOCATS.BE, which were not verified: the dates shown are the OVB's.
• It promises no date: neither the OVB nor the bars know it in advance.

Verification

The values, dates and sources were verified on 7 October 2026. The tool assists the lawyer, who remains responsible for checking the amounts with their bar authority.
